Strawberry Shortcake—Applique Shirt—2 year old
Submitted by Donna, San Diego, California

I decided on a Strawberry Shortcake theme for my daughter who seems to really like the character.

Invitations: I cut out pictures of Strawberry Shortcake and stuck them on pink card stock and wrote this: “Come join us for a very sweet Strawberry Shortcake birthday party for Maria.”

Decorations: On butcher paper, I painted a strawberry patch with green grass, loads of strawberries with a blue sky and a sun on top with a huge smiley face that lit up my daughter’s face when she saw it!

I made a small sign with a picture of Strawberry Shortcake for my door and wrote on it, "Welcome to Strawberry Land... where it rains strawberries”.

I placed a green tablecloth and cut strips to make it look like grass. Then I placed a smaller red tablecloth on top and drew black dots on it.

I made my daughter a strawberry appliqué shirt from a plain pink t-shirt that she had and she wore it on the day of her party and we got a lot of complements on it!

Activities: When the kids sat down, we did some face painting with strawberries and flowers.

Place the strawberry in the strawberry field. Very easy for this age group. They used the field that I made for the wall and strawberries that I cut. Since the children were so young, I didn’t blindfold them since they would get scared. I just gave them the strawberries to place anywhere they wanted. Some of them didn’t even want to give their strawberry up!

We played a game of Spoiled Strawberry like Hot Potato.

I passed out Strawberry Shortcake coloring pages and crayons.

I love doing handprint and fingerprint art with my children so I incorporated it into this party. I made large strawberries on paper and had them create seeds with black non-toxic paint and their little fingers.

I read a Strawberry Shortcake book to them while they ate their lunch.

I drew and cut out strawberries and hid them around. I made it easy by placing them under chairs and tables.

Food: I gave out pb&j sandwiches cut with strawberry cookie cutters for the children. I had lasagna and a garden salad for the adults. I also had pink lemonade and iced tea.

I served Strawberry ice cream and cookies were also served. I made strawberry cookies with the strawberry cookie cutters also.

Cake: Her cake was a strawberry made from a heart shaped cake pan that I borrowed from a friend. I decorated it with pink frosting and green frosting leaves at the top and chocolate chips for the seeds.

Goody bags: I bought pink bags with Strawberry Shortcake coloring pages and crayons and some Strawberry Shortcake stickers and included thank you notes in them with Strawberry Shortcake on them and my daughter thanking everyone for attending her party.
